Microwave Endometrial Ablation
Patient Comments
In January 2001 I had a Microwave Endometrial Ablation performed. I was 48 at the time, my periods were very erratic, I would go up to 3 months without a period then when I did get them I flooded.
This operation was performed as day surgery in Sydney Adventist Hospital. There was no pain, just a crampy feeling for a couple of days (no medication required for pain). After 2 – 3 weeks my discharge was gone and I have not had a period since.
I would recommend this operation to anyone with period or change of life problems.

Before the microwave ablation I was bleeding for 8 days every month with dreadful pains and cramps twice a month. The first three days each period were terrible.
The microwave endometrial ablation procedure was very easy and compared to the alternatives I was amazed. The discharge and bleeding afterwards surprised me because it lasted for nearly a month. I had an infection but the infection settled within a few days when I took antibiotics.
Since the discharge stopped I have had no bleeding or cramps and I am very happy with the procedure. Before the operation I couldn't go on holiday and had to plan my life around my periods but I was determined to avoid a hysterectomy.
