Patient Experiences with Major Prolapse and

Total Transvaginal Pelvic Reconstruction

I had a vaginal hysterectomy 1998  for a prolapse I had no other problems with it but because of my age I am now 52 the doctor that saw me said "well you don't want that any more so we will take it out" . Then after that my problems started . I developed a complete prolapse of everything. There was a large lump between my legs. In laymans terms it seemed as if my vagina had turned inside out for want of a better expression. It was very uncomfortable to walk or sit. A number of doctors were consulted. Dr Farnsworth was the 3rd specialist that I saw . Everything was explained in full detail and I was operated on at The San at Wahroonga on December the 9th 2001.

After the operation I didn't really experience much pain at all more like a bit of discomfort especially on sitting down . I was very bruised but I do bruise easy . I found after the operation  that I couldn't use my bladder at all and so had a catheter inserted for a few days , when it was removed I could pass urine but not enough so I do have had to self catherize myself at home while my bladder relearns how to work properly. It is no problem at all to do and if anyone has to do it don't panic like  I did, you can do it so easy , I often wonder how often we really emptied our bladders before properly.

Two weeks after the operation my bladder function has returned to normal and now I am completely emptying my bladder. I was amazed that I was able to go home so quickly and that I had no pain at all after the operation.
